Our Veterinarians

Andrew J. Gilliland, DVM

Dr. Andrew Gilliland is a proud native of Sylacauga. He attended Troy University where he earned a Geomatics degree and was hired as a land conservation manager/surveyor for Drummond Company. After several years of working in the field, Dr. Gilliland decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and attend Auburn University to pursue an Animal Sciences degree; ultimately receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, he worked in Texas and South Florida until 2021 when he founded Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and experiencing the outdoors. Dr. Gilliland and his wife, Raylan, have a son, Beamon, daughter, Gaines, and two spirited dogs, Rigsby and Sunny.


Carley Rehr, DVM

Dr. Rehr is originally from New Site, Alabama, and earned both her undergraduate degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. During her undergraduate studies, she worked as a veterinary technician assistant, gaining hands-on experience and further fueling her passion for veterinary care. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, thorough care and building strong relationships with clients and their pets.

Outside of work, Dr. Rehr enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, friends, and family. She loves antiquing and thrifting, DIY crafts, and browsing the aisles of TJ Maxx. She shares her home with two cats and one dog, and she enjoys being involved in her community whenever she can.

Lacey Barnett

Lead Receptionist/Coordinator

Lacey has been with Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital since its opening in 2021 and is the true MVP. Lacey's bright, genuine smile brings joy to all that meet her. No matter the storm, Lacey always remains poised and focused. Her confidence and sincere honesty make her the glue of our team here at Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital. Lacey came to Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital with extensive experience in equine medicine and veterinary care. Growing up in the rodeo circuit built her confidence with animals and in turn flows over to her work here at the hospital. Lacy has two beautiful children, Ryder and River, and 3 precious dogs, Oakley, Olive, and Mabel.

Sarah Thomas

Veterinary Assistant

Sarah has been with Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital since 2023. Sarah is a diamond in the veterinary world. Her passion and love for animals and their health is something one can only be born with. Her calming demeanor is admired and appreciated by our clients and pets. Sarah has served the veterinary community for more than 19 years in various roles. Whether it's pet sitting for clients, arts and crafts for her friends and family, or just spending time with her beautiful children, Willow and Bray, Sarah never misses an opportunity to help someone. Sarah has 2 dogs, Alistair and Hut, although some would question if they were dogs or more like her other children.


Chloe Harrell

Veterinary Assistant

Chloe has always had a deep love for animals and a passion for helping them feel safe, healthy, and cared for. She began volunteering at a local veterinary clinic, where she quickly realized her calling in animal care. Through that experience, she developed a strong foundation in patient handling, client communication, and the importance of teamwork in providing the best possible care.

Outside of the clinic, Chloe raises and shows a herd of Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, a hobby that's taught her valuable hands-on experience with hero management, nutrition, and animal health. She also enjoys spending time with her pets and continuing to learn more about veterinary medicine. Chloe loves forming connections with both pets and their owners and is passionate about making every animal's visit as stress free and positive as possible.

Kodie Thomas

Veterinary Assistant

Kodie has been with us since 2023. Her vibrant personality brings comfort to every pet and pet parent she meets. Her strong work ethic and genuine passion for animal care have made her an invaluable part of the team here at Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital. Currently attending college to further her education, Kodie skillfully balances her academic life with hands-on experience in the clinic. She is known for going the extra mile to ensure animals receive compassionate, top-quality care. When she's not studying or working, Kodie spends her time with her beloved dogs, Newt, Nova, Nash, Lulu and Girl dog.

Established by Dr. Andrew Gilliland in 2021, Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital serves the needs of pet owners in Sylacauga, Oak Grove, Talladega, Alexander City, Childersburg, and everywhere in between. After spending several rewarding years practicing veterinary medicine in Texas and South Florida, Dr. Gilliland made the heartfelt decision to return to his hometown to pursue a more community-centered approach to care. Inspired by a passion for building long-term relationships with pets and their families, Dr. Gilliland founded the hospital with a focus on personalized,veterinary medicine. Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital was established with the belief that every pet deserves compassionate, individualized attention– and that veterinary care should feel like family.
