Wellness Programs

At Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital it is our goal to help our patients stay healthy and happy for as long as possible. For this reason, we focus our attention on wellness and preventative care. It is always better for your pet’s health and more economical for you to prevent complications from progressive disorders, heartworms, parasites, and infectious diseases before they get established. This can be accomplished through regular checkups, vaccinations, and maintaining consistent preventative protection from heartworms, fleas, and ticks.

Our veterinarian will discuss in detail the individualized needs of your pet according to your pet’s breed, age, health condition, activity level, and lifestyle. We will give you the information and options you need to make the best decisions for your pet’s health and happiness.

Come check us out at Sylacauga Veterinary Hospital. We are your friendly, neighborhood vet clinic trusted by pet owners in Sylacauga, Oak Grove, Talladega, Alexander City, Childersburg, and the surrounding communities.

FAQs

How often should my pet have an exam and blood work?

  • We recommend an examination by your veterinarian every 12 months for healthy pets under the age of 7 and every 6 months for healthy senior pets.
  • Those pets with chronic disease or mobility issues may require examination on a more frequent basis.
  • We also recommend annual blood work profiles to provide a continuous record for our veterinarian to identify trends and specific areas to focus on in an effort to prolong the duration and quality of life of our patients.

What should I expect during a wellness exam?

  • During a physical exam, our veterinarian will perform a complete wellness examination of your pet, checking your pet's teeth and oral cavity, examining the joints and muscles, heart and lungs, eyes, ears, and skin. We’ll check everything from nose to tail and in between.

What is preventative care?

  • Preventative care is a proactive approach to your pet’s health.
